In light of the upcoming New Year, I have created a list of resolutions for those wanting to make 2016 your best skin year yet. If you aren’t already doing these simple suggestions, now is a great time to start. So without further adieu, I give you your Top 10 Skin Resolutions for 2016:

1.    Sunscreen – Everyday. Reapply every two hours when outside. Even for driving to work or walking your dog. If you can see sunlight at all, you should be wearing sunscreen.

2.    More sunscreen (1 bullet just isn’t enough)- It’s the absolute best thing you can do for your skin and to prevent premature aging.

3.    Retinoids – Think of this as your “little black dress” of skincare. Retinoids have been studied extensively and are proven to improve acne and reduce signs of aging. They make the skin appear firmer by promoting collagen formation as well as minimize fine lines and wrinkles by increasing skin turnover – all contributing to your overall glow.

4.    Full body skin exam – Now is a great time to schedule your annual full body exam in our office, especially if you’ve never had one before. It is not uncommon for a patient to come in for eczema only to discover a skin cancer in the same visit. It is always good to get a baseline and 2016 is the year for it.

5.    Monthly skin checks at home – We recommend giving yourself a good look over once a month (not neglecting the bottoms of the feet, between the toes, and even in your lady/man parts). By looking regularly you will be the first to note even subtle changes in your skin.

6.    Moisturize – Because healthy skin needs a good, regular drink, too. Choose a gentle moisturizer that is unscented and reapply once or twice daily.

7.    Ditch the Bed – Vow to make 2016 the year that you never step foot in a tanning bed again. Our skin remembers every single tanning session, so it is never too late to quit. You will thank me in 20 years at your class reunion.

8.    Refrain from popping, picking or squeezing – As a professional picker myself, I understand the urge to just pop that whitehead or pick at that pimple that just won’t heal. But let me tell you, you will double the amount of time it takes to heal and increase your risk of scarring. If it is really bothersome to you, give us a call and we can help you out.

9.    Treat yourself – There are several specialty products and procedures that we would love to recommend depending on your specific concerns. Brown spots? We can help. Wrinkles? Absolutely! Hate the bags under your eyes that make you look tired? You got it. Call to make an appointment for a free consultation.

10.    Quit smoking – Don’t let smoking ruin your good looks. This habit decreases healing time, is associated with a range of skin disorders and causes premature aging. Vertical lip lines, I’m looking at you. Be gone in 2016.

Please call our office @ 402-484-0908 if we can help with any of your new skin resolutions. Cheers to 2016 and that beautiful, healthy skin you will maintain!
