There is always something new in the aesthetic world. I have always felt that it is part of my commitment to patients to constantly evaluate new procedures and devices. Here at Sutton Ryan Dermatology and Aesthetic Center you can be sure that we only offer procedures and products which are effective and safe.
So you can imagine our excitement when we recently acquired not one but TWO new safe and effective treatments, Kybella® and the Coolsculptin®g Mini, both of which are for the fat of the area below the chin (the double chin).
Why is the area below the chin so important? A double chin can add years (and pounds) to a person’s appearance as it is a highly visible area. When surveyed, over half of individuals will point out their double chin as an area of concern.
Why do we get a double chin? There are two common possibilities for excessive tissue below the chin. One possibility is the collection of fat in this area. If this is your problem, then either Kybella® or Coolsculpting® may work for you. However if your problem is loose skin in this area, then removing fat will not be your answer. But stay tuned because coming soon is a device we are bringing on which will help with skin tightening.
How do I know which is right for me, Kybella® or Coolsculpting®? At a free consult visit with our expert RN you will be evaluated and your options will be discussed. But here is a summary of the two treatments. Kybella® treatments consist of multiple tiny injections which chemically dissolve fat cells and then rely on the body to remove the damaged fat cells over time. Kybella® requires on average 2 to 4 treatment sessions which are spaced at least one month apart. There is some recovery time for Kybella® sessions, as the treated area is red, swollen, tender, and firm for 1 to 2 weeks. The area may be painful for the first 24 hours. Cost is based on amount of Kybella® used so will vary from patient to patient.
Coolsculpting® consists of two one-hour sessions in which an applicator is applied to the under chin area and the area is subjected to cold temperature to freeze the fat tissue. There is very minimal pain. Recovery is also minimal. For patients with large areas of fat this would be the best choice. Cost is one set fee for each treatment.
