Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis
Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a common chronic medical condition. Areas of hyperhidrosis include the underarms, the palms, the soles, or other areas. The affliction can be uncomfortable, embarrassing, and can affect the quality of life.
After an evaluation by your provider, treatment plans can be discussed and implemented. Topical agents are the first line of treatment and these include prescription strength antiperspirants which seal off the sweat glands. Next are agents which block the nerve stimulating the sweat gland (anticholinergic agents). These agents can be topical as well as oral. Side effects of these agents will be discussed at your visit. Also injections with botulinum toxic are a safe and effective method of blocking nerve transmissions to the sweat gland. Your provider will discuss which treatment option best fits your needs.
