In lieu of the recent summer Olympics I wanted to share my blog regarding dedication and how that ties to your skin.

While folding a mountain of laundry, I happen upon a reality show chronicling the journey of several prospective Olympiads.

Here’s what strikes me:

  • A female gymnast spends seven hours a day training
  • 9000 calories: the daily caloric requirements of a distance swimmer
  • A diver suffering from memory loss from a near fatal head injury battles his way back to become a favorite for the Olympic diving team

This type of dedication and commitment to excellence is difficult for the non-Olympian to understand.  Then, I picture the familiar scene — an athlete standing on the podium, hand on heart, gold medal hanging from her neck, tears streaming down her face, and suddenly, it all makes sense.

I know I don’t have a gold medal in my future, but I feel . . . inspired.   I am inspired to work harder, to take better care of my body, to achieve excellence in my little sphere. No one has folded towels with such precision.   I set a blistering sock-matching pace.

Sounds silly, right?  But the truth is that each of us can achieve gold-medal status in something.

For me, this is in the way I take care of my skin.   And I would love to help you get there too.  Here’s what it takes.

AM Routine:

  • Using the Clarisonic Mia, I cleanse with Obagi Foaming Gel, a gentle cleanser that cleans, but doesn’t overdry my skin.
  • Apply TNS Essential Serum, a potent blend of antioxidants and growth factors — stimulates collagen production, prevents oxidative damage by neutralizing free radicals, and reduces inflammation.
  • Apply HA5 — provides my skin with an immediate drink, plumping up each tiny skin cell. Say “Hello” to a luminous glow.
  • Apply Obagi Clear to combat brown spots and add extra moisture.
  • Apply Skin Medica Total Defense and Repair with tint (Obagi 360 and Even Up in the winter months). This saves me from having to wear an additional layer of foundation.

DONE!

PM Routine:

  • Cleanse with Obagi Foaming Gel
  • Apply TNS and HA5 (improves endogenous hyaluronic acid production reducing my skin’s need for extra topical moisturizers)
  • Apply Tazorac Cream .1% (the strongest prescription strength topical retinoid) mixed with Obagi Clear

DONE!

Procedures:

  • IPL to treat brown spots and reduce redness
  • Monthly microneedling to stimulate collagen and elastin, reduce pore size, and treat acne scars
  • 30 units of Botox to my forehead, medial and lateral brows, and upper lip every three to four months
  • Sculptra injections for volumization and collagen stimulation. Series of three injection sessions, 1 vial each, completed over a year ago.
