The word “zoom” has always been a verb, but up until three months ago I didn’t know that it was a verb with a capital “Z”. Zoom has become a household word and many of us are “Zooming” every day. Here are some tips to keep in mind when in front of the webcam.

I have noticed that many people have their webcam such that the view is from low to high on their faces. This highlights the lower face which for some people is not a particularly attractive area. Lower face can exhibit laxity in the form of sagging jowls and crepe paper looking neck skin. Make sure your webcam is positioned at a level slightly above your eye level so that you are seen straight on.

Lighting is important to look your best. Make sure your lighting is coming from in front of you to light up your face. You might want to purchase a lighting device so that you have consistent, dependable lighting.

For example, the image on the left shows the camera of the computer pointed up (low to high) with poor lighting.  The image on the right shows a shift in moving the camera to point down (high to low) on the face. Natural light coming in from a nearby window helps to brighten up the face.

Also being on camera is similar to being on stage. Stage actors/actresses already know that lighting can cause the face to look “washed out”. For this reason consider using a slightly exaggerated amount of makeup and color to eyes, lips, cheeks, and skin in general.

The people watching you on Zoom will be focusing on your face so you want to look your best. I suggest a product called HA5 which contains hyaluronic acid. This plumps and hydrates the skin, camouflaging fine lines. Use it along with a splash of water as a base layer, then sunscreen and makeup goes over. Also microdermabrasions or DiamondGlow treatments will keep your skin looking fresh, vibrant and healthy.

Don’t underestimate the value of having the furrows of the forehead and around the eyes relaxed with BOTOX. Furrows can make you look older and angry. A relaxed look is more pleasant and inviting. Our aesthetic center providers can customize a treatment plan that is right for you.
