There are many creams, lotions and serums available to improve your skin, help with acne and or help reverse the signs of aging; but there is also a device that can help as well. I would like to discuss the Clarisonic.
The Clarisonic is a handheld cleansing device that uses vibration and circular motion to help unclog pores, remove dirt /make up, and exfoliate your skin. Like an at-home facial or mini Microdermabrasion, patients who use a Clarisonic usually love the feel and look of their skin. I personally love mine and feel cleaner and smoother than when I cleanse with hands alone. The devices can vary in cost, depending on the model, but they are certainly worth the investment.
A couple of Do’s and Dont’s:
1) The head of the device needs to be replaced every two or three months depending on the frequency of use.
2) If you have sensitive skin like me, I would recommend starting with the Clarisonic 2-3 times per week and increase use as tolerated up to twice a day.
3) If you experience redness, use should be decreased. This is over exfoliation of the skin. Also, if you are using other irritating topicals (Retin-A, acne creams, AHAs, etc) you may need use less frequently.
4) I would NOT recommend keeping the Clarisonic in the shower, as it may accumulate bacteria/mold on the device head.
5) Use your Clarisonic with a gentle cleanser; avoid exfoliating cleansers that are grainy- as they could damage the device. (Gentle cleansers we sell are: Ageless, Obagi and Skin Medica).
6) I have seen the Clarisonic help with keratosis pilaris both on the cheeks and the upper arms. Read more about keratosis pilaris at https://suttonderm.com/blog/tiny-annoying-bumps/. My daughter uses the Obagi Foaming Gel with the Clarisonic daily or every other day and I’ve seen her keratosis pilaris improve dramatically. And I can tell when she “forgets”
I feel using the Clarisonic has improved the look and feel of my skin! Try it for yourself.
