Wanderlust

It’s about that time of the year when many Nebraskans feel the itch to travel. Whether it’s to the mountains in nearby Colorado or the ocean in Florida or California, there is something about winter that inspires people to get away. Kids get a few weeks off school and some parents get a few days off work.
Don’t forget that even though it is winter, you can still get sunburned. In fact many winter vacations can make you particularly susceptible to the sun’s rays. For example, when you are skiing in the mountains, you are closer to the sun’s rays since you are at altitude. Also, the sun reflects off the snow and onto your face. Make sure to apply sunscreen to your face when you are skiing. Your ski goggles only cover your eyes, but your nose, cheeks, lips, and chin are particularly vulnerable.
If you head south, don’t forget to put on your hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and your sun protective clothing. Your skin has probably been covered with sweaters and coats over the past two months so it hasn’t seen much sun. Just one day at the beach with no sun protection can cause sun burn and damage.
