I have so many patients who ask me about purple blotches on the hands and forearms.  Perhaps they notice a dark purple spot which appears out of nowhere.  These are many times bruises which are very common in sun-damaged skin.  Mature skin is prone to bruising due to loss of subcutaneous fat, thinning of the epidermis and inability of the dermis to support the small blood vessels.  Bruising can be accentuated by use of low dose aspirin, ibuprofen or blood thinners.

Now there is a product to help with these purple blotches.  DerMend, a moisturizing anti-bruise product contains several agents which can help via different pathways.  Active ingredients include:

Retinol–related to Vitamin A, strengthens and thickens the epidermis and promotes collagen synthesis

Alpha Hydroxy Acids–decreases skin roughness and promotes exfoliation

Ceramides–excellent moisturizers

Niacinamide–a form of Vitamin B3, can improve appearance of fine lines and pigmented spots

Vitamin K1–aids in faster resolution of bruising

Application should be twice daily to hands, forearms, and even lower legs.  Sunscreen should be applied as well in the morning.  Allow at least 6 to 8 weeks to see maximum results.
